Bellator 178 - The Tetralogy

Date: April 21st 2017

Location: Uncasville, Connecticut

Venue: Mohegan Sun Arena

Daniel Straus will defend his featherweight title against familiar foe Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire, completing a tetralogy of fights at Bellator 178.

Let’s take a look at the journey of the Bellator featherweight title since their first encounter back in 2011:

Bellator Featherweight Timeline

An indicator of the competitiveness of the Bellator featherweight division, the belt has struggled to find a home with Straus, Pitbull and Pat Curran generously sharing it between them. Completing their tetralogy, it is Straus’ turn to defend the belt which will be his first return to the cage since capturing the belt for a second time. He suffered an awful hand injury in his fight with Pitbull, forcing him to go through various surgeries which kept him out of competition for nearly a year and a half. Pitbull has had two fights since but is also returning after suffering an injury in his last fight. In August 2016, he broke his shin bone after a kick was checked by Benson Henderson. Nasty setbacks for these fighters who are desperate to get back in the cage and put this rivalry to bed.

See below for a statistical breakdown of the title fight along with the rest of the main card:

Straus v Pitbull
Middleton v MacFarlane
McKee v Mazzotta
